Bucspan Michael and Enta
My paternal
grandparents, Michael and Enta Bucspan, died on the Struma.
My father
had already come to England in 1936 and was fighting in the British army
when the Struma sank. He changed his name to Buxton after the war.
I am planning
a diving expedition to locate and film the remains of the
Struma. We also plan to lay a plaque containing appropriate
words of prayer
on the wreck. We hope to be ready in the late summer
of 2000.
The reason
for the trip is simply that I wish to visit the resting place of my grandparents.
The reason for making a film is so that others, not able to dive there,
can, if they wish, be a little closer to their lost families.
My father
is still alive and supports the expedition. The sole survivor of
the sinking, David Stoliar, also supports the plans.
Please let me know if you want any more details about
the diving expedition
or if I can assist your research in any way. The team
I dive with has also
dived the Louisitania and Britannic (big sister to the
Titanic) There are
details of our team on the web site
http:\\website.lineone.net\~britannic98
I am also setting up a Struma web site to publish the
details of the tragedy
and provide information about the diving expedition.
I will send you details
when it is running. If you set up a Rumanian language
web page, I will of
course put a link to it from my site.
